3 Easy Steps To Overcome Depression

It is estimated that there are currently over 300 million people around the world who suffer from depression, and a greater number, who have suffered depression at some point in their lives.

Oftentimes, interacting with family, friends or co-workers can become overwhelming, boring and overburdening. Sir Winston Churchill, who suffered severe depression himself, described it as “The Black Dog of Depression”.

Chances are you or someone you know has, or is currently suffering depression right at this moment.

Whatever the case, the challenge of depression can come to you without warning. Perhaps it may shock you to know that depression is the most common illness – NOT JUST ONE OF THE MOST COMMON ILLNESSES!

But perhaps more shocking is the fact that most pharmaceutical products do not really cure depression. You see, most of the so-called “anti-depressant” drugs are designed merely to provide relief from depression – not the cure. Thus most anti-depressant drugs merely address the symptoms of depression.

The following 3 easy steps are guaranteed to help you overcome depression no matter how serious the depression. Many products in the market promise to cure depression but the reality is that most of them don’t really work.

Step 1 – Acknowledge That You Need Help

Acknowledge that you have a problem and believe that you can overcome it. Many people, especially men are unable to accept the fact they have a depression problem.

Secondly, be sincere with yourself – seek help. If you have been “feeling depressed” for a prolonged period of time (more than two weeks), chances are you have clinical depression. In this case visit your doctor. The doctor will conduct a medical check-up to establish the type of depression you have.

Usually the doctor will ask you a few questions such as how long you’ve had the problem. Do not get irritated by this. This is only meant to assist the doctor to diagnose the problem, whether there are other possible causes of your depression and the type of depression you have, with a view to prescribe the most suitable medication.

However, most types of depression are not clinical. In this case a simple solution without a doctor’s prescription can be obtained. The following steps will help you overcome your particular type of depressions in a matter of days.

Step 2 – Find The Cause Of Your Depression.

There are many methods for treating depression but most of them don’t really work. Besides, most pharmaceutical companies manufacture products that only address the symptoms – that’s why they are in business in the first place.

Finding the root cause of your depression is the key to overcoming depression. There is a definite cause of depression and once you have an understanding of what causes you to become depressed then you have won half the battle.

The fact is that if you only treat the symptoms of depression by taking an anti-depressant, then you’ll probably only end up relapsing into further spells of depression.

Step 3 – Take Action.

Worrying about your problem and doing nothing will certainly not help. In fact, worrying about a problem or any particular situation without taking any positive action only magnifies the problem – A major contributory factor to depression among other health issues.

When in a state of depression, you do not have access to all your mental faculties. Your brain is the most powerful super-computer on the face of the Earth! It can come up with a solution to any problem you present it with.

Try to come up with answers to the following questions
and write them down on a piece of paper:

  1. What exactly is the challenge I am facing?
  2. Where or how did it all begin – was there an event that triggered all this?
  3. What are the possible options at my disposal to overcome this?
  4. What resources do I have?
  5. What must I do now to turn things around?
  6. What do I need to do to make this work?
  7. What can I learn from all this?
  8. What would happen if I did try this approach?
  9. How can I overcome this quickly and easily, while enjoying the process?
  10. Who could help me?
  11. Who do I know that has gone through this before?
  12. Who do I need to be to make this work?

One of the most powerful things you can do is to learn to manage your state of mind. Think of the cost of not managing it.

Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley did not control their states of mind. They ended up dying of overdoses.

It is absolutely vital, when facing a situation such as depression, and trying to come up with a solution, that you are in control of your emotional state. If you are not, your mind will focus on the ‘Fear’ and the ‘Worry’, and will be distracted from its task of helping you get through this.

How you feel is not determined by the weather, politicians, or the economy, but is in fact a response that your mind controls and determines.
